Shepton was really rocking to a different beat for this!

Performers from different traditions put on a great show in the Market place, and there was free, delicious food for all - from Poland, Russia, India, Thailand, Portugal and the Philippines!

And the weather was friendly! Rain was promised, but held off until the event was over so the sizeable crowd who came for the festivities were able to enjoy themselves to the full. And enjoy themselves they did! The energy and enthusiasm were just wonderful and we were all swept along in it.

Britain has such an opportunity now. We didn't deal with the practicalities of people coming here very well, but this mix of cultures can strengthen and enrich us, producing a new and livelier, diverse definition of being British.

When people meet people like this, beyond both the correctness and the prejudice born of ignorance, it is heart-warming and so valuable.
