Liberty Day at Lisboa

In celebration of Liberty Day, one of the major holidays in Portugal on 25th April, Café Lisboa offered tasters of Portuguese food throughout the afternoon at Friday’s Shepton Market.

Behind the scenes is Wendy Sugg who grew up in Shepton, but lived in Portugal for a few years where she learnt to speak Portuguese. She is helping Angelina and Manuel Ramos, the owners of Lisboa, to establish a fine reputation for their food and coffee!

The restaurant was decorated with 100 red carnations, the symbol of this revolution, since soldiers put these flowers in their guns, in what came to symbolize the absence of violence for changing the regime in Portugal.

A well known Portuguese folk singer ‘Joca’ (George) played in the evening at Lisboa as people danced, sang and celebrated together.
